 Indonesia is experiencing a drug emergency. These dangerous substances have now poisoned many people, from children to the elderly, ordinary people to artists and officials. What exactly is the meaning of drugs and what are they?

Article 1 paragraph 1 of the Narcotics Law explains that the definition of drugs is artificial substances or those produced from plants with hallucinations, decreased consciousness, and causes dependence effects. According to the definition of drugs, you can understand if this material is prohibited if there is no official permit. Experts also provide a definition of the meaning of drugs including:

- Ghoodse: understanding drugs, namely chemicals needed in health care efforts. When the material enters the body's organs as a result of one or more functions in the body will change. Then also occurs both physically and psychologically which if the consumption is stopped, the user will experience physical and psychological disorders.

- Smith Kline and French Clinical: Drugs are substances or drugs that can cause the user to become unconscious or anesthetize. These substances affect the user's central nervous system.

- Kurniawan: understanding drugs are chemical compounds that can change the psychological situation of other users' thoughts, emotions, moods, and behavior. Drugs that enter the body can be drunk, eaten, inhaled, injected, intravenously, and other ways.

- Jackobus: namely materials or drugs produced from plants or not, synthetic or semi-synthetic which can trigger a decrease in consciousness, decrease taste, reduce pain, and can lead to addiction.

- Wresniwiro: Narcotics are substances or drugs that can trigger unconsciousness or anesthesia, because these materials affect the user's central nervous system.

- According to language: are narcotics, psychotropics, illegal drugs and addictive substances. Therefore, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia also uses the term Napza which stands for narcotics, psychotropic substances and addictive substances. While the term Narkoba is an abbreviation of Narcotics, psychotropics, illegal drugs, and addictive substances.

Drug Classification

The use of drugs is to relieve pain while producing a sense of calm. Usually it is used for medical needs, for example to facilitate the operation process. Drugs are divided into several groups where each group causes different side effects.

- Narcotics Category I: can only be used for the purpose of developing knowledge and use for therapy because it can cause addiction. For example: Cocaine, Heroin, Leaf Cocaine, Marijuana, Opium, Jicing, MDMDA/Ecstasy, and Cathinone.

- Narcotics Group II: useful for treatment, but will be used as a last resort if there are other drugs that are effective. In addition, it can be used in therapy and also in the development of science. Has great potential to cause addiction. For example: pethidine, morphine, methadone, and fentanyl.

- Narcotics Group III: works in medicine and is often used for therapy and scientific development. This group of drugs has a low risk of causing addiction. For example: Buprenorphine, Codeine, Ethylmorphine, Polkodina, Nicocodina, and Propyram.

- Synthetic Narcotics: This type of synthetic drug is developed with a complicated manufacturing method. Experts and also the medical world used for medical and research needs. For example, Amphetamines and Dexamphetamine.

Adverse Effects of Drugs

In general, the effects of drugs will result in addiction, brain damage, dehydration, insomnia, heart problems, and even death. The impact of drugs is also influenced by the type of drug consumed, the existing dose, the period of use, the user's health condition, and several other factors. When a user abuses drugs for a long time then he will be addicted. Drug rehabilitation is very important to help addicts recover and live a better life.

However, it must be reached, not everyone who uses drugs becomes addicted as long as the dangerous addictive ingredients in it have not had the effect of damaging brain cells. The damage to brain cells that causes addiction triggers other bad effects. This condition will also make it difficult for users to reduce drug use, even though they try hard to do so.
