Examples of Drugs Made from Natural Ingredients

Examples of Drugs Made from Natural Ingredients - There are so many types of drugs that come from natural or synthetic materials with various manufacturing methods. Some are made in the laboratory, some are grown in nature which are then processed by a simple process. Two examples of drugs made from natural ingredients are heroin and cocaine or morphine.

Examples of Drugs Made from Natural Ingredients

Drugs made from natural ingredients, for example, tobacco, marijuana, coca plants (from which cocaine is ultimately made) and opium (from which heroin is ultimately made). These plants do not grow anywhere. For example, the coca plant is mainly found in Colombia and the first cannabis plant is only found in countries with warm climates.

Poppies

Poppies are plants that contain opium. Opium is in the form of a dry white milky juice that contains several alkaloids, including codeine and morphine. Both compounds are very important for medicines such as cough syrup and pain relievers. The plant is also popular for the heroin extracted from it.

The word "morphine" comes from the Greek morpheus, which means "god of sleep". It is a drug that is widely used for analgesia but is also abused. In the 1800s, morphine (also known as laudanum) was a very well-known and widely available drug, but because of its addictive qualities, its circulation was restricted.

Morphine is an alkaloid that is extracted from raw opium. This alkaloid consists of a white, crystalline powder, odorless and water soluble which is used in the treatment of pain associated with myocardial ischemia and also for dyspnea associated with chronic left ventricular failure and pulmonary edema.

As scientific literature indicates, opium contains natural alkaloids such as papaverine, codeine and morphine. The effects caused by consuming morphine include: Euphoria, Anesthesia, Relaxation, Antitussive, and Antidiarrhea. While the side effects that can occur include: decreased concentration skills, nausea, sensation of heat in the body, heaviness in the limbs, dry mouth and itching.

Coca plant

Cocaine is a highly addictive stimulant that directly affects the brain. Actually cocaine is one of the drugs that has been known for a long time. Coca leaves, from which cocaine is obtained, have been consumed for thousands of years, whereas the pure chemical, cocaine hydrochloride, has been consumed for more than 100 years. In the early 20th century, for example, pure cocaine became the underactive ingredient used in most tonics and concoctions made to treat various ailments.

Pure cocaine was originally extracted from the leaves of the coca bush of the genus Erythroxylum, which grows mainly in Peru and Bolivia. Colombia is the country with the most coca cultivation. Today, cocaine is one type of drug that is widely abused. It can be given by a doctor for legal medical use, for example, as a local anesthetic in some types of eye, ear, and throat surgery.

Cocaine is generally sold illegally in the form of a fine white crystalline powder known as "coca", "coke", "C", "snow", "flake" and "blow". Traffickers usually combine cocaine with other substances, such as cornstarch, talc, or sugar; or with certain active drugs such as procaine (a local anesthetic with a uniform chemical composition) or other stimulants, such as amphetamines.

There are 2 chemical forms of cocaine that are universally consumed: hydrochloride salts (which are soluble in water) and cocaine crystals or bases, which in English are known as "freebase" (which are insoluble in water). Hydrochloride salt, or cocaine powder form, is taken by injection or inhalation. Cocaine or free base crystals have been treated with ammonia or sodium bicarbonate and water and then heated to remove the hydrochloride and create a substance that can be smoked.
