They also want to stay away from confrontation. For example, if you are facing financial problems, you would prefer to leave your bank account unopened. Some people with anxiety and fear also like to escape from stress by going to bed. Or they try to suppress their worries and fears by eating a lot. Others use alcohol, drugs, or sedatives to reduce tension.

Triggers of Excessive Fear and Worry

Suppression of Fear and Excessive Worry

There are some things you can try yourself to learn to manage your fears so you can feel better, including:

• Exercise at least half an hour every day, such as walking, cycling, swimming or gardening.

• Get enough sleep.

• Live in an orderly manner.

• Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.

• Eat at a set time 3 times a day.

• Do not use alcohol and drugs.

• Reduce or not drink coffee, especially caffeinated drinks (energy).

• Try to relax as much as possible. This can be tried, for example by taking deep breaths, with yoga, meditation, or relaxation exercises. You can also take a walk or call someone.

• Seek support from trusted people and explain what's bothering you.
