1. Raw Sprouts

Sprouts do contain a lot of nutrients. Unfortunately, raw or undercooked sprouts can be dangerous for pregnant women.

Raw sprouts may contain several types of bacteria, such as Salmonella or Escherichia coli. Salmonella infection can cause the earth to have diarrhea or vomiting.

Meanwhile, E.coli bacteria that infect the blood can trigger fatal medical conditions during pregnancy, looking at research published in the journal Clinical Microbiology and Infection. Some of these include food poisoning, urinary tract infections, and respiratory diseases.

Types of sprouts that should not be consumed raw or undercooked during pregnancy, namely bean sprouts, green beans, alfalfa, clover, and radish.

2. Unwashed vegetables

This parasite can penetrate the placenta, that is, the layers attached to the uterus. Toxoplasma infection can make the fetus experience abnormalities from birth. In addition, the danger of toxoplasma can cause the baby to be born prematurely, even to die in the womb. 

In addition, almost all raw vegetables contain pesticides. If not washed thoroughly, the remaining pesticides may enter the body. 

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, United States, the dangers of pesticides for pregnant women can trigger pregnancy complications, such as miscarriages, babies born disabled, or other pregnancy problems. 

To avoid the danger of parasites and pesticides, wash the vegetables thoroughly before processing, yes!

3. Jengkol

The next vegetable that is forbidden to pregnant women is jengkol. Based on research released in the Journal of Community Health, jengkol aka Archidendron pauciflorum should not be consumed, especially when the gestational age enters the third trimester.

The reason is, jengkol is feared that it can cause an unpleasant smell during childbirth so that it has the potential to interfere with the delivery process. Moreover, pregnant women often have difficulty controlling urination ahead of delivery. 

Well, the pungent smell of jengkol can interfere with doctors or midwives who help with childbirth.

4. Young Papaya

Does Mama like young papaya? Usually, this fruit is delicious if it is processed by sautéing. 

Although delicious to eat, pregnant women are not advised to eat young papaya, including those that have been cooked.

You see, young papaya contains sap or latex. Young papaya sap can make pregnant women experience allergic reactions. The sap of this fruit can also damage the protective membrane layer of the fetus.

Young papaya also contains the enzyme papain. Similar to prostaglandin hormones, this enzyme can stimulate contractions (the condition of the uterus hardening and tightening). This is if young papaya is consumed in excess.
